A Strange Quiet
Standing on the jet bridge at the San Diego Airport, there were almost 50 people in line ahead of me. We were all there waiting to board the plane, but our progress was halted for unknown reasons. During this period of waiting, I noticed that no one was talking. Not on the phone, not to each other; a five minute silence. This struck me as odd ; that there could be so many people, a collective human body, and yet there was this deep solitude emanating from each of us. We were individuals and nothing more; strangers travelling to the same destination but ultimately different worlds. Oil on canvas 2012
